Artemis is a sweet and lovable 8-year-old Shepherd mix who weighs 21 lbs. He was rescued from TJ with a history of significant injuries, including a fractured jaw, hip, and ribs, and fused toe bones. Artemis is a survivor of TVT and Vasculitis, which is now mostly in remission. Despite his past, he is an extremely good boy who is fully bathroom and leash trained. He can be a bit naughty when left alone and has gotten into treat bags, but he makes up for it with his enthusiastic greetings and affectionate nature. Artemis is generally chill and low-energy at home, enjoying soft blankets and sunshine. He gets along well with small dogs and children.
Ideal Home
Artemis would thrive in a mellow family environment, ideally with a gentle, smaller dog sibling for company. A single-level home with a backyard is preferred, as stairs may become more challenging for his back legs due to previous injuries. He would do well with someone who enjoys relaxing outdoors, taking short, leisurely walks, and soaking up the sun. He is not suited for an active, hiking lifestyle but would enjoy beach trips and simply pausing to enjoy the sights and smells.
Ongoing Health
Artemis is a TVT survivor with Vasculitis, mostly in remission. He requires daily medication: Pentoxifylline, Free-Form Snip Tips, Doxycycline, Gabapentin, Douxo S3 Pyo Shampoo, and MicroSpore lotion. He also uses eye medication: Optimmune and Optixcare Eye Lube Plus. All prices are approximate and depend on the retailer. He is very good about taking his medication.
Training & Support
Artemis is fully bathroom and leash trained. While generally well-behaved, he has a tendency to get into treat bags when left alone. He makes up for this with his excitement and affection upon his family's return. He is easily travelable and enjoys joining in on adventures.
