Meet Norman!

Norman is a 4.5-year-old Labrador Retriever/American Pitbull Terrier mix who weighs 73 pounds and is currently in Durham, NC. He's a big boy with an even bigger heart, and his unique tortilla chip-shaped ears are sure to make you smile. Norman is affectionately known as the "velvet hippo" and is a truly gentle and goofy soul who absolutely loves to cuddle. His happy place is a comfy dog bed, and he cherishes quality time with his people. Norman is a classic couch potato with a playful streak, often rolling onto his back for an adorable "aren't I cute?" grin. He enjoys walks, training games, and belly rubs, and truly blossoms with love and a structured routine. While his routine can be flexible, he's happiest when he has someone to nap near and a little mental stimulation each day.

Ideal Home

Norman would thrive in a calm, structured environment with a secure, fenced yard. He does best without small children. He can be compatible with older, respectful children and some dogs, provided introductions are slow and careful.

Training & Support

Norman is crate-trained, house-trained, and knows several commands like "sit," "stay," "down," and "place." He is currently working on "leave it." He responds very well to positive reinforcement and consistency. His adoption includes four professional training sessions and a full month of behavioral guidance from a consultant to help ensure a smooth transition. Norman can be selective with new dogs and people and has shown reactivity in certain situations outside the home. While he has had a bite incident in the past, it was described as accidental and specific to the circumstance, not a reflection of his true nature. Continued obedience training and positive reinforcement will help him remain confident on walks.
