About Dewey
Your Woodland Adventure Buddy with a Snuggly Side
Dewey is the kind of dog who will hike through the woods with you in the morning and curl up beside you while you drink your coffee like its his full-time job. At around 2 years old and 45-50 pounds, this Carolina Dog mix is equal parts outdoorsman and devoted companion. Dewey is incredibly smart and thrives when his brain is engaged. He loves playing hide-and-seek, "find it" with treats, and solving little homemade puzzles like treats rolled into towels or tucked into boxes. Sniffing is his favorite pastime, whether its longline exploring in the yard or taking in every scent on a woodland hike. And if there's snow? Even better. Dewey bounds through it with pure joy, happily shoving his whole face into snowbanks just because he can. He has a playful, goofy side that's impossible not to smile at. Once unsure about toys, he now proudly carries around his beloved squeaky ball and enjoys a good game of tug. Collagen rolls and sturdy chews keep him happily occupied. Inside the home, Dewey thrives with structure. He waits patiently at the door before walks, is crate trained and settles well, enjoys relaxing on his place mat, loves slow, cozy morning snuggles, and follows a consistent daily routine beautifully. Dewey does experience leash reactivity toward passing dogs, people, and bicycles. His foster has been working thoughtfully with him, and he is improving, but he will need a confident, dog-savvy adopter committed to continuing positive reinforcement training and mindful threshold management. Dewey is deeply loving, loyal, and naturally protective of his people. He forms strong bonds and truly wants to be near his humans. With the right guidance, he will continue to grow into an incredibly steady and devoted companion. He is crate trained, food motivated, highly intelligent, affectionate and loyal, and active but able to settle. Dewey would thrive with someone who appreciates both adventure and structure – someone who wants a dog to hike with, train with, and then relax beside at the end of the day. Every rescue pup is a work in progress, and that's the beauty of it. None of them come wrapped in a bow, ready-made or mistake-free. They come with stories, quirks, and hearts that have seen a lot but still choose to trust again. Adoption isn't about perfection; it's about presence. Showing up for them, every day, until they know they're finally home. That's when you'll see them bloom, soft and steady, into the very best version of themselves. And somewhere along the way, you'll realize they were never the only one being rescued.
Ideal Home
A home without young children, an experienced adopter, a calm, structured environment, and a yard for sniffing and enrichment is a big plus. We recommend homes with children 10 years and over to ensure the best fit for both pets and families.
Ongoing Health
Dewey is a healthy boy.
