SLOTH

Sloth is a handsome male Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix who came to us as a stray on June 13th. He's an adult dog who weighs around a medium size. Sloth can be a friendly and social boy when he's feeling comfortable and undisturbed. He enjoys engaging with his handlers and can be quite sweet. However, his comfort level dramatically shifts when he feels pressured or when handling is involved.

Ideal Home

Sloth would do best in a home that understands and can manage a dog with high fear and stress levels. He needs a patient and quiet environment where he won't feel overwhelmed. A home that can provide him with a predictable routine and ample space to decompress would be ideal.

Sloth is neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. He has no other known health issues at this time.

Training & Support

Sloth struggles with the shelter environment and shows increasing defensiveness when feeling pressured or handled. He has exhibited low growling, resistance to being moved, and clear discomfort when asked to stand, be leashed, or guided. During a recent handling event, his stress escalated, leading to growling, snapping, and redirecting toward staff. This pattern indicates his tolerance for handling breaks down quickly under pressure. He will need a dedicated owner who can work with him on building trust and confidence, especially around handling. Positive reinforcement and a slow, gentle approach will be crucial for his success.

Transportation

Sloth is currently located in Ocala, FL, at Marion County Animal Services. Transport may be available to approved adopters.
