Hambone

Hambone's story began with heartbreak. This handsome 8-year-old boy was found alone in a church parking lot, severely underweight and covered in fleas. Despite everything he had endured, Hambone never gave up. Today, safe at our Sanctuary, he is finally receiving the care, comfort, and love he always deserved and his true personality is beginning to shine.

As Hambone has settled in, we've discovered an affectionate, goofy, and resilient dog who is embracing his second chance at life. When he was in a foster home, his foster mom lovingly nicknamed him Mr. Wiggle Butt because of his happy, wiggly greetings and joyful outlook on life. He has a way of making people smile wherever he goes.

Hambone is smart, eager to please, and highly treat-motivated. He already knows a variety of commands and enjoys learning new things, especially when snacks are involved! He's also house-trained and does a great job communicating when he needs to go outside. One of his sweetest habits is coming over to thank you after every meal, as if he's genuinely grateful for every bit.

This boy strikes a wonderful balance between adventure buddy and cuddle companion. He loves going for walks, exploring new scents, and getting outside to stretch his legs. He still has plenty of energy and would enjoy a home with a fenced yard or someone who can provide regular walks and enrichment. After his adventures, he's more than happy to curl up beside you or even on your lap for some well-earned relaxation.

Hambone has done well with other dogs when properly introduced. He can be a little mouthy when excited, but it's never out of aggression; it's simply one of the ways he expresses affection, and he's making progress every day. He does well when left home during a typical workday, making him a great companion for many lifestyles. Just be sure to keep tempting snacks out of reach; his long legs and curiosity make him a talented counter surfer! Most importantly, Hambone is looking for someone who sees beyond his difficult past and focuses on the incredible dog he is today.
