About Fergie
Fergie is a gorgeous female Doberman with soulful eyes, endless affection for her people, and a wonderfully goofy personality. At around 1.5 years old, she is playful, food-motivated, intelligent, and eager to learn. She loves zoomies in the yard, chewing on a favorite bone, playing with canine friends she trusts, and curling up nearby for snuggles. Like many Dobermans, she's a true Velcro dog who forms deep bonds with her people and wants to be involved in whatever you're doing. Fergie has been in foster care for less than a month, so we're still learning about her every day. What we've discovered so far is a sweet, loving dog who tries hard, learns quickly, and has tremendous potential in the right home. She gets along well with the male Doberman in her foster home and has shown excellent dog-to-dog social skills with dogs she is comfortable around. She is happiest when she has a balance of activity, mental stimulation, and quality time with her people. Fergie is not, however, a plug-and-play dog. She can become overstimulated and is still learning how to regulate her excitement around things like meals, walks, and other exciting events. She also has dog reactivity that will require continued training and thoughtful management. Most importantly, Fergie is very uncomfortable around strangers. She does not enjoy being approached by strangers and needs careful introductions, clear boundaries, and owners who are committed to advocating for her space. She appears to be more comfortable around women than men, and new people should never assume they can simply walk up and interact with her. While we believe she can continue making progress with training and confidence-building, her adopter must be prepared to manage this behavior responsibly and proactively. Because of this, Fergie is looking for a quiet, predictable home with no children and limited foot traffic. She would thrive with an adopter who is experienced with behaviorally complex dogs or who is willing to work closely with a qualified trainer. She is not currently suited for busy social environments, frequent visitors, or a lifestyle that requires her to regularly interact with unfamiliar people. For the right person, Fergie has so much to offer. She is loyal, affectionate, funny, intelligent, and deeply devoted to the people she trusts. If you're willing to put in the time and effort, you'll gain a best friend who will love you with her whole heart.
