About DUSTY

Hiya! My name is DUSTY! I'm a charming Shepherd Mix who's about 5 years old and weighs a lean 37 lbs. I'm told I'm quite a handsome fellow, measuring 66 cm from paws to head and 89 cm from head to tail. My journey to find my forever home started in Mexico City, where I was found living at a gas station with my friend Athos. Despite the tough beginnings, I've always had a gentle nature.

When rescuers found me, I was a bit thin and had some fur loss, but I was so happy to finally get some love and care! The vet helped me get back to full strength. Now, my tongue has a cute habit of sticking out, but don't worry, I'm perfectly healthy! I've made lots of friends with both humans and other dogs at the shelter, and I'm ready to share my calm energy and affection with my forever family. I absolutely adore cuddles and making new friends, and I'm dreaming of a relaxed and happy life. Could you be the one for me?

Ideal Home

I'm a social, playful, and friendly pup who isn't shy around people. I greet everyone with a happy tail wag and a calm demeanor. I love going for walks and playing with balls, but I also enjoy snuggling and pets. I'm told I would make a perfect family dog! While I get along wonderfully with other dogs of all types and don't show any territorial behavior or resource guarding, my reaction to cats and children is unknown at this time. I also have an unknown prey drive, so my adopter will need to be prepared to train me through any such behaviors should they arise.

Ongoing Health

During my initial vet visit, there was a slight tremor in my legs, suspected to be neurological. However, after several follow-up visits, the tremor has completely disappeared, and I haven't shown any further symptoms. My tongue hanging out is just my cute quirk – the vet found no medical reason for it! I've been neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I'll arrive with all my vaccine and test records. I will also be tested for heartworm before my flight. Please note that dental work is common for rescue dogs, and while I might need some based on my "teefs," any associated costs are the adopter's responsibility.

Training & Support

My leash manners are a work in progress. I get excited on walks and tend to pull because I'm eager to explore everything, but I'm not reactive towards cars, people, or other dogs. An adopter willing to work with me on leash training using a well-fitted harness will help me succeed! I'm also working on housetraining, and with frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement, I'm sure I'll master it in my new home. We highly encourage adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.
