Rudy is a lovable goofball with a sensitive soul and a stubborn streak, all wrapped up in an adorable package. He was born in the wild and spent his early years with a pack before being rescued due to an injury. His initial introduction to shelter life was scary for him, and he even nipped out of fear. However, with patience and positive reinforcement, Rudy blossomed into a social and happy dog. He's been in our program for nearly two years, charming staff and making friends with dogs of all sizes. Rudy enjoys car rides, walks, and has even enjoyed weekend stays at a volunteer's home. He's a talker when he's happy or playing, a trait that some dogs might find off-putting initially, but most get used to it. He's potty trained and knows when he needs to go out. While he can be initially cautious around larger dogs, he quickly warms up and enjoys hours of play. Rudy struggled at a large adoption event, becoming overwhelmed, so we're looking for a special home that understands his need for a slow transition. His DNA reveals he's a delightful mix of Pit Bull, Labrador, Bulldog, and Australian Cattle Dog. He comes with a special kennel to help him feel secure during the first few days in a new environment. Rudy is incredibly food-motivated and loves balls, plush toys, and Nylabones. He knows "sit" and tolerates nail trims but is not a fan of baths! He walks well on a leash, provided there are no tempting birds or cats to chase. His "zoomies" are a sight to behold when he has a chance to play freely.
Ideal Home
Rudy needs a patient adopter who understands his need to adjust to new environments at his own pace. A foster-to-adopt situation would be ideal to ensure he feels safe and comfortable before fully committing.
Ongoing Health
Rudy has a clean bill of health. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.
Training & Support
Rudy is potty trained and will communicate his needs. He is generally good on a leash but can be distracted by prey animals. He benefits from positive reinforcement and is food-motivated. He requires a special kennel for the first few days in a new home to help him adjust.
