Axel is a handsome 2-year-old Boxer mix who weighs 54 lbs and has the confidence of a dog who knows where the snacks are kept! He was found abandoned, but we think that was their loss because Axel is a dog who is built for companionship and loves a good routine. He approaches life with enthusiasm but not chaos; walks start with excitement, but he settles in once he realizes you are indeed going somewhere. He loves exploring and carrying objects he deems important, like sticks, ropes, and leashes! Axel is smart, food-motivated, and responsive when things are clear and consistent. He needs a calm, confident person who is mildly amused by dogs who think for themselves.
Axel is friendly but measured with people and prefers older children who understand personal space and adults who appreciate a dog with a personality. He is social but independent around other dogs, enjoying the company of opposite-sex dogs, but he doesn't need a full house to feel complete. He can be a little bossy during play but is not aggressive; he just likes to be in charge. He prefers calmer environments and is happiest when he doesn’t have to manage the entire situation. Axel is not a fan of cats. At home, Axel is potty trained, crate trained, and knows how to settle once his needs are met. His energy level is moderate, and daily walks and playtime keep him balanced. He would do well in an apartment with consistent exercise or a home with a yard to patrol.
Ideal Home
Axel is looking for laid-back, dog-savvy humans who understand that the best dogs aren’t perfect—they’re real. He needs patience, structure, humor, and someone who won’t panic when he grabs the leash like, “I’ve got this.” We recommend homes with children 10 years and over.
