Meet Button!
Button is a handsome young wire-haired terrier/Schnauzer mix, estimated to be around 2 years old, with striking golden-hazel eyes, a soft white chest, and an adorable little white mohawk that gives him a permanently mischievous look. He loves being part of the action and is happiest when included in walks, hikes, or just hanging out with his people. He's an active boy who enjoys exploring and has plenty of energy for adventures. One of Button's most charming traits is that he "talks," often making funny little sounds and chattering when he's excited or trying to get your attention. When he's not out adventuring, Button has a goofy side and loves relaxing on his back with all four legs in the air, soaking up attention. He's a smart boy who enjoys learning and has made great progress with his leash skills and using the dog door, settling into his foster home's routine almost immediately. He is potty trained, and while adopters should expect a learning curve, he is also well crate trained when given structure and routine. Button is loyal, affectionate, and full of character, but he can be a bit insecure when meeting new people and may take time to warm up.
Ideal Home
Button is looking for an experienced home that understands how to build trust, advocate for their dog, and help him navigate situations that make him uncomfortable. He can be sensitive to overstimulating environments and has previously nipped at joggers who unexpectedly ran toward him on walks, so a home that can provide management for outings will help him succeed.
Ongoing Health
Button is muzzle trained for situations where extra management may be helpful, which is a tool that allows him to safely enjoy outings.
Training & Support
Button is doing well with his leash skills and has quickly figured out how to use the dog door. He is potty trained and pretty well crate trained. He needs a patient, dog-savvy home that will appreciate his intelligence and give him the structure, understanding, and companionship he thrives on to continue building his confidence.
