Vaquero

Vaquero is a 5-year-old, 46 lb Black Mouth Cur mix who was found in October 2025, in Edinburg, Texas, near the Mexican border. He was found in terrible condition with severe mange, barely any hair, and severely underweight. Thankfully, Vaquero has made an incredible recovery and is now a completely different dog! He was once very fearful of people, but now he is happy to see everyone and loves receiving attention and pets.

Ideal Home

Vaquero would do well in a home with older, gentle children. He enjoys relaxing and is happy to just hang out, making him the perfect "Netflix and chill" companion. He also gets along wonderfully with other dogs of all sizes and has been known to be fine with kitties.

Ongoing Health

Vaquero has no long-term effects from his past struggles and is heartworm negative. He is neutered, current on vaccinations, flea/tick and heartworm prevention, microchipped, and up-to-date on dewormer. He will receive a clean bill of health from a licensed veterinarian prior to transport.

Training & Support

Vaquero is house-trained. He loves car rides and looking out the window.

Transporation

Vaquero is currently in a temporary foster sanctuary along the Texas/Mexico border. He can be transported to various locations throughout the Central US and East Coast every 2-3 weeks. Transport is included in the adoption fee. Possible transport locations include:
