Cashew is a devoted, affectionate 4-year-old Australian Shepherd who loves his people deeply. This loyal “Velcro dog” follows his humans from room to room, gives kisses, enjoys belly rubs, and settles quietly indoors after activity. He loves car rides, toys, cuddling, and spending time with his people.

Cashew is fostered in Milton, Delaware. He has recovered from a re-fractured right hind ankle after three months of splints, healing, and carefully supervised hand-walking. He is ready to run and play, though he may occasionally have a slight limp and should remain on a joint supplement.

Ideal Home

Cashew needs an experienced adopter familiar with Australian Shepherds or other herding breeds. His ideal home includes:

• A securely fenced yard
• No cats or small pets
• No young children
• A balanced, mellow larger dog, or a home where he can be the only dog
• Someone who understands his signals and can provide structure, consistency, and management

Cashew has high prey drive and may nip at a stranger’s legs when stressed, though he has never broken skin. He is leash-reactive toward other dogs and trucks, so a quiet environment is the best fit.

Ongoing Health

Cashew previously experienced double ear infections, skin sores, and an old fracture in his right hind ankle. He should remain on a joint supplement and may occasionally have a slight limp.

Training & Support

Cashew is house trained and crate trained. He walks nicely and matches his person’s pace in quiet settings, and a front-clip harness or Gentle Leader works best. He is food motivated, eager to please, and has made good progress with consistent training and redirection. His adopter will need to continue working on leash reactivity and appropriate responses when he becomes overwhelmed.
