Horacio

Meet Horacio, a sweet Chihuahua mix who is about 2-3 years old and weighs 16 lbs. Horacio's past was heartbreaking; he was found tied up, neglected, and mistreated. Thankfully, those dark days are behind him, and he's now discovering what it means to be safe, cared for, and loved. He's a gentle, affectionate boy who enjoys car rides, loves being around people, and is always ready to give kisses. Horacio has a playful side, though he's more on the calm and easygoing end of the spectrum, making him the perfect companion for someone who wants both love and tranquility. He enjoys short bursts of play and then relaxing with those he trusts. Despite everything he's been through, Horacio's heart is full of love and he's ready for a forever home where he will never again know fear, only kindness, care, and affection. Whoever adopts him will gain not only a loyal companion but also a little soul full of gratitude.

Ideal Home

Horacio would thrive in a home with a tall fenced backyard and an active family that enjoys outdoor activities. Families should have a true intention to rescue a dog and an open conscience about the needs of rescued animals, including their need for protection and education. Experience with dog behavior and training is highly desired, or a willingness to hire a trainer to help this intelligent dog reach his full potential. High tolerance and patience for rescued puppies are a must.

Ongoing Health

Horacio has received a spay/neuter certificate, two DHPPI vaccines, a rabies vaccine, a Bordetella vaccine, and has been dewormed and microchipped. He has also had a 4DX test and a heartworm test, both with negative certificates. He is on monthly preventive protection with Nexgard Spectra for fleas, ticks, and heartworms. A health certificate and vaccine booklet are provided. It's important to understand that rescued dogs may require an adjustment period and may not be potty trained.

Training & Support

Horacio is not house-trained. Patience and understanding are crucial, as rescued dogs may have fears and anxieties due to past experiences and need time to adapt to new environments and people. Providing a safe and loving environment, establishing a routine, and setting clear boundaries will help Horacio feel secure and build trust.

Application Details:

• Applications start by contacting us through Wags.
• You will need to fill out an adoption form and send photos/videos of your home.
• If it's a match, you will have a call or video chat to be introduced to the pet, and a virtual home tour will be conducted.
• 1-2 references will be spoken with.
• If approved, you will sign the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee, which helps cover vet care, spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, food, and more.

Transporation

Horacio is currently being fostered in Saltillo, Mexico, and is ready to travel to the East Coast on our next cross-country trip. Transportation is available door-to-door for a one-time fee of $400 USD. Trips are scheduled 3-4 times a year with a minimum of 15-20 adoptions per trip. A contracted transport company will collect adopted pets in Mexico and escort them across the border into Texas. For Canadian adoptions, pets will be delivered to the nearest US-Canada border. You will receive real-time updates throughout the journey in a private Facebook Messenger group.
