Bebop is a medium-sized female spayed dog looking for a loving home. She has a sweet and gentle spirit, and her favorite place to be is right beside her people, soaking up love and offering it right back. Bebop has a neurological impairment that affects her coordination, causing a quirky gait, but this does not keep her from enjoying a normal life. She is happy, loving, and will make a wonderful companion. Bebop loves her walks, enjoys playing fetch, and thrives on human connection. She is highly treat motivated and is learning basic commands.
Ideal Home
Bebop would thrive in a home with a fenced yard where she can safely explore and expend energy. A single-level home or one with minimal steps would be ideal due to her coordination challenges. She would do best as the only pet or with a very tolerant and easy-going resident pet, as she can sometimes misread other dogs' cues. Children of middle elementary school age or older would be most suitable, as she might inadvertently knock over toddlers. She would also be a great companion for a retired person.
Ongoing Health
Bebop has been diagnosed with suspect Cerebellar Hypoplasia. This condition is characterized by the inadequate development of the cerebellum, which affects motor movements. It is typically not degenerative, meaning her symptoms are unlikely to worsen. While there is no cure, she has learned to compensate and can live a long, happy, and pain-free life with appropriate care and understanding. She is up-to-date on vaccinations and has a microchip.
Training & Support
Bebop is doing well with potty training and is learning to indicate when she needs to go outside. She is also doing well on stairs and with leash walking, though she can pull when excited or encountering other dogs. Redirection with treats is effective. She is working on ignoring other dogs with strong personalities during pack walks. Bebop is very treat motivated and has learned to sit before meals. She enjoys chewing on bones and does not counter surf.
