About Journey
Hey there, I'm Journey! My name truly says it all, as my life has been quite the adventure. I spent over a year neglected in an outdoor kennel with no shelter, followed by 17 long months at a pound. Thankfully, Wags stepped in and gave me a second chance at life. Now I'm in a foster home, learning what love feels like, how to live in a house, and how to simply be a dog. It's been a significant journey, but I'm hopeful the best part is still ahead of me.
I'm a unique American Bulldog/Terrier mix with a heart-shaped spot on my side, a diamond around one eye, and always-perfect eyeliner. I'm also deaf, but please don't let that deter you! I'm a quick learner and know commands like "sit" by touch and can come with the right visual cue. I'm smart and eager to please, I just need a patient person who will understand my needs.
When I love, I love deeply and completely. I'm very affectionate and prefer not to be left alone for extended periods. I enjoy walks and jogs, though I do pull on the leash because I'm a strong dog! I will need continued training and a patient human who understands that I'm still learning to trust the world around me.
The truth is, I can be reactive towards strangers and selective with other dogs. I tend to bark at new people and dogs, so meeting me in person is essential. I'd do best as the only pet in the home, but with a calm female dog, I might be able to share my space. Because I get nervous around strangers, I need a home without children. It's nothing personal; I simply thrive in a predictable, low-traffic environment.
I've passed my cat test, have no bite history, and show no food aggression. I've learned to relax during baths and enjoy a good chew bone. I'm working every day to be the best version of myself. I love water, although it sometimes leads to ear infections. Fetch isn't my favorite game, and grass can make me itchy. But being loved and understood? That's all I truly desire.
I've been waiting for three years for the right person to come along – someone strong, patient, protective, and committed. Someone who understands that while I may have a few quirks, I also have a heart full of loyalty, bravery, and love.
Ideal Home
I need a home without children and would do best as the only pet. With the right calm female dog, I might be able to share space. I do best in a predictable, low-traffic environment.
Ongoing Health
I love water, but it sometimes gives me ear infections.
Training & Support
I pull on the leash and am strong, so continued leash training is needed. I am stranger-reactive and dog-selective, so I will bark at new people and dogs. I am deaf but know commands by touch and visual cues. I'm still learning to trust the world.
