Casper is a charming 8-year-old boy who is overflowing with affection and ready to be your shadow! He's a true social butterfly, delighting in meeting new people, including men, women, and children. While he enjoys the company of other dogs, he would also be content as an only pet, as his "jealousy" is more of a desire for attention than aggression. Casper is not particularly playful with toys or other pups but does have bursts of energy. Because of his strong prey drive, homes with cats are not a good fit. He was likely a hunting dog in his past, as he knows several Greek commands and is learning English and hand signals. He's not a fan of crates when left alone and may bark, but he has proven trustworthy outside of one. While he's almost entirely house-trained, occasional marking can occur, which is managed with a belly band when he's unsupervised. Casper loves car rides and is ready for adventure!
Ideal Home
Casper thrives on companionship and wants to be involved in everything you do. He'd love a home with a fenced yard where he can enjoy being outdoors, but he also needs daily walks with his favorite person. Due to his throat condition, walks should be kept to 20-30 minutes, especially in warm weather. He cannot wear a collar for walks; a head halter like a K9 Bridle, Halti, or Gentle Leader is recommended. A front-clip harness that doesn't put pressure on his throat area could also work.
Ongoing Health
Casper arrived with a persistent cough, which has been managed with medication and a daily throat-soothing supplement. X-rays revealed tracheal and mild bronchial calcification, likely age-related. While his cough is currently minimal, further treatment might be necessary if it worsens. He recently had dental work to address discomfort from an underbite. Casper is also being treated for an antibiotic-resistant UTI and requires annual Leishmaniasis testing for the next seven years, as this parasite can remain dormant.
Training & Support
Casper is working on not barking excessively when he wants something and responds well to redirection. While he is nearly house-trained, continued reinforcement will be beneficial in a new environment.
