Mr. Ernie is a wonderfully sweet, 4-year-old, 35-pound male red tricolored Aussie who is discovering the joys of life! He previously lived in an outdoor pen with many other dogs and had very limited human interaction, making everything a new and exciting experience for him. Ernie has made incredible progress during his time with us. He is housebroken and has medium energy levels. While Ernie may be slow to trust and warm up to new people, he is now ready and able to form deep, lasting attachments. Initially, he might shy away from human interaction, but once he feels safe and secure, he will begin to open up, seeking affection during quiet moments. He gets along well with other dogs and ignores cats. He particularly enjoys playing chase and wrestling with the resident dog!
Ideal Home
Ernie feels most comfortable outdoors and around other dogs. Due to his past experiences, he would thrive in a home with a secure, fenced-in yard and at least one other playful canine companion.
Ongoing Health
Mr. Ernie is in good health.
Training & Support
Ernie is quiet and shy but is learning that people are kind and can offer great treats and cuddles. While his leash skills have improved, he can be a bit erratic for the first 20 minutes or so of a walk as he releases nervous energy, but he does settle and walk nicely by your side afterward. He crates well and sleeps through the night, but he now prefers to be close to people and sleeps uncrated in our room as he has proven to be trustworthy. Integrating Ernie into a new household and helping him adjust to new humans might take a little longer than for a dog with a more conventional background, but he is absolutely worth the effort!
