Baby and Bentley are bonded chihuahua siblings who are part of our Long Term Foster program and are not available for adoption. They are 3 years young and came into our care in March 2016. After much hard work and a year of observation, it was determined that their best interests are served by remaining in their loving foster home for the rest of their lives.
These two have been through a lot and show signs of abuse, being terrified of feet and sudden hand movements. They flinch, cower, and even scream when touched unexpectedly or when feet appear nearby. Baby is a sweet girl who wants to interact, but her nerves often lead to submissive urination triggered by various emotions. Bentley is even more timid and also urinates in the home, though his is more territorial marking, which responds to gentle correction. Both have a habit of eating feces.
Prior to coming to us, Baby and Bentley lived in diapers in a confined space, so they truly cherish their freedom to roam their foster home. Their foster mom is the only one who can pick up Bentley, and only when he's willing. His screams when picked up were initially concerning but have been determined to be fear-based.
Ideal Home
Baby and Bentley thrive in a calm environment where their foster family can continue to build their confidence and trust, teaching them that human interaction can be loving. They do not interact well with other dogs, with Baby actively warning them away and Bentley tolerating them without engagement.
Ongoing Health
Baby and Bentley have been spayed/neutered, are up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, and have had dental work. Their medical needs have been attended to, and their fear-based reactions have been thoroughly examined by a veterinarian.
Training & Support
Baby and Bentley require patience and understanding due to their deeply rooted emotional and behavioral issues. Gentle verbal correction is effective for Bentley's marking. Their foster family is dedicated to helping them overcome their fears and learn to trust human hands and feet.
