Bambi is a gorgeous Shepherd and Carolina Dog mix who came to us as a medical intake. He was found in very poor condition, underweight and suffering from seizures. After being stabilized by veterinarians, we learned Bambi has Glycogen Storage Disease, a rare metabolic disorder that causes his blood sugar to drop quickly, leading to seizures. This means he requires a strict feeding and medication schedule.
Despite his health challenges, Bambi has blossomed into a big, beautiful, gentle, and sweet dog. He has a soft coat, soulful eyes, and a big appetite for attention, treats, and food! Bambi loves to be by his people's side, gets along well with other dogs, walks nicely on a leash, and is happy in a crate or riding in the car. His favorite place to be is on the sofa with his person or enjoying his meals.
Ideal Home
Bambi needs a very special home that can manage his Glycogen Storage Disease. This requires strict adherence to his meal and medication schedule, as missed meals can cause serious issues. He's also a "Goat" and will eat anything, so his environment must be kept meticulously decluttered to prevent him from ingesting non-food items, which could lead to gastrointestinal problems or blockages. Surgery is also complicated due to his inability to fast. He would do best in a home where someone is present most of the time. He is good with older children who understand the importance of keeping doors closed and items out of his reach. He can live with or without other dogs. His compatibility with cats has not been tested.
Ongoing Health
