Meet Leila, a sweet and soulful 6-year-old spayed female German Shepherd/Pit Bull mix who weighs around 40 pounds. She's a loving and cuddly companion who forms deep emotional bonds with her people. Leila is happiest lounging by your side and has a special gift for providing comfort and calm. While she enjoys quiet indoor days, she also has an athletic side and loves bursts of zoomies and impressively high jumps! She's incredibly treat-motivated and a fast learner, having mastered a long list of commands. Leila is crate-trained, muzzle-trained, and e-collar trained, which provides her with structure and security. She does experience separation anxiety, so crating her when she's alone is ideal until she feels fully secure in her environment.
Ideal Home
Leila would thrive in a peaceful, dog-free household with a large, securely fenced yard. She would do best with someone who works remotely or has a flexible schedule to spend quality time with her. Due to her anxiety and protective nature, she needs slow, patient introductions to new people, especially men. She can be defensive when people enter her space and may bark or lunge. Meeting new people outside for a short walk before entering the house together has been a successful strategy for introductions.
Ongoing Health
Leila takes daily medication for incontinence and is prescribed trazodone for high-stress situations like vet visits to help manage her anxiety. She is up to date on vaccines and recently had a dental cleaning.
Training & Support
Leila needs a strong, confident handler on walks, as dogs are a major trigger for her, and she can be reactive even from a distance. She walks best on a short lead and uses an e-collar to reinforce training and build trust. She has a high prey drive, so cats and small animals are not a good fit. Continued structure and consistency are key for managing her reactivity on walks, especially when she sees squirrels or other dogs. While she has a solid recall, she needs a secure environment to explore. She enjoys tug-of-war and playing with stuffed toys.
