Mara

Mara, a delightful 3-year-old Shepherd mix, is searching for her forever family. She arrived at our shelter after previously having a home, and while she could use a little more filling out, we want to ensure she maintains a healthy weight to protect her joints. Mara enjoys playtime, especially games of fetch, and possesses a surprisingly light and graceful way of moving. She's also a smart cookie, knowing "sit" and taking treats gently, and she clearly enjoys the company of her humans. True to her Shepherd nature, she's watchful and will let you know if anyone is approaching the perimeter.

A home that understands the needs of a Shepherd and can provide consistent exercise and mental stimulation. Mara would do well with an active family.

Ongoing Health

Mara has been diagnosed with Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (dry eye). This requires lifelong daily eye drops and cleaning to keep her eyes moist and healthy, ensuring she can see her surroundings clearly.

Training & Support

Mara knows "sit" and is gentle when taking treats. She has a tendency to perform perimeter checks, which is typical for her breed. She passed an initial assessment with other dogs but will need a meet-and-greet with any resident dogs in the home. While she may not be overly playful, her goal is often to coexist peacefully and maintain a sense of order.
