About Benny is in Maine (fka Beignet)

Benny is a 2-year-old, approximately 75lb, "some sort of pit bull type" mix who has been with us since September 2024. He's a happy, healthy boy who loves to romp and play, followed by some good snuggles. Benny is the class clown with a deep bark that can be misinterpreted and a goofy grin when he's happy. He expresses his excitement with full-body wiggles, and he's learned to control his exuberance.

Benny loves people and bonds quickly. He's sensitive and aware of his surroundings, always taking in new information. While new sights and sounds can be initially suspicious, he's learned that the FedEx guy brings snacks and the TV isn't real. He also knows that new people mean more ear scratches!

He used to be quite challenging on leash, and a lot of stimuli on walks would terrify him. He has improved significantly but still prefers walks on quiet roads or trails. Benny is a country bumpkin at heart who enjoys entertaining himself in a fenced yard. He is house and crate trained, knows basic manners, and sometimes "suckles" his blankets, occasionally mistaking a throw rug for one. He enjoys learning with consistency and rewards; he's a quick study! Benny likes other dogs, but compatibility will depend on a meet-and-greet. Cats are not a dealbreaker if they are dog-savvy. He thrives on routine, so an adult home in a quiet area would be ideal for Benny.

Benny's backstory: Estimated dob April 2024. Benny was found as a 3-month-old puppy in an abandoned park with a severe case of demodex, with only a dusting of white fur on his head. Our Louisiana rescue partner noted it resembled the powdered sugar on beignets, and the name stuck. He has some cosmetic scarring on his face from this past condition. He is prone to environmental allergies (dust, pollen) and is managed with a limited ingredient diet, omegas, and an allergy pill. He wears sunscreen outdoors due to his pink skin.

Ideal Home

An adult home in a quiet area that can provide a routine would be the bees knees for Benny. He would prefer quieter walks on trails or country roads.
