Penny is a gorgeous Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, weighing approximately 50 lbs, and she's the sweetest girl! She's about 1 year and 3 months old and was found in January 2026 in a cemetery with over a dozen other dogs, fending for herself. Despite her tough start, Penny absolutely loves other dogs, big and small, and even enjoys gentle play with pigs! She can be a little shy at first, but quickly warms up to become your loyal best friend. Penny is very active and loves to romp in the yard, especially with toys for tug-of-war. She would do best in a home with another active dog to play with and tire each other out, or with consistent opportunities for doggy playdates or daycare. Her fosters' favorite thing about her is her unwavering trust and sweetness, even after being abandoned.
Ideal Home
Penny would thrive in an active home with someone who wants a dog that loves adventures and will be their shadow. She would greatly benefit from having another active dog in the home to play with.
Ongoing Health
Penny is heartworm positive. She has received a 30-day course of antibiotics and will need to stay on heartworm prevention for 12-16 months, followed by a retest. She is spayed, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, flea/tick prevention, heartworm prevention, and de-wormer. She will receive a clean bill of health from a licensed veterinarian prior to transport.
Training & Support
Penny is MOSTLY house trained and will need consistency to master it 100%. She walks okay on a leash but will need more practice to become perfect. She has excellent recall once familiar with an area. Penny is an escape artist, having climbed a 4-foot fence, but she explored briefly and then waited at the front door to be let in.

Transporation
Penny is currently located in south Texas, along the Texas/Mexico border. Transport is available to the Central US and the East Coast, with stops including Albany, NY; Wells, VT; Brattleboro, VT; Nashua, NH; Willington, CT; Stamford, CT; Dayville, CT; Steubenville, OH; Cincinnati, OH; Grove City, OH; Grove City, PA and Washington, PA (on hold until further notice); Ridgefield, NJ; Mt Laurel, NJ; Emmitsburg, MD; Elkton, MD; Falls Church, VA; and Glenn Allen, VA. Transport occurs every 2-3 weeks.
