Rufio

Meet Rufio, a 66-pound Cane Corso mix who is still a bit shy but blossoming into a loving companion. He was found on the streets in early January 2026 and is learning that humans can be trusted. Rufio has a sweet, gentle temperament, and while it takes him a little time to warm up to new people, he quickly bonds with his family, seeking affection and enjoying couch cuddles. He is particularly fond of his foster mom and her two children, ages 9 and 11, with the 9-year-old being his favorite! He's a bit intimidated by his foster dad but has shown no aggression, simply choosing to keep his distance. Rufio has a low to medium energy level, enjoys evening walks, and is indifferent to other people and dogs he encounters. He's quiet by nature, only occasionally whimpering when excited or unsure, and offers an endearing, brief howl when his foster mom leaves.

Ideal Home

Rufio would thrive in a patient home environment where he can continue to build his confidence and feel safe and loved. He would appreciate calm, well-mannered doggy friends who can help him feel more comfortable.

Ongoing Health

Rufio is currently underweight, and his foster mom is working to help him reach his ideal weight of 75 pounds.

Training & Support

Rufio is house-trained and reliably uses the backyard or indicates when he needs to go out. He is also crate-trained for when the family is away and sleeps through the night, preferring to be near his humans. He is working on his leash manners and is doing well.
