Penny

Meet Penny! This sweet 5-year-old, 55lb Shepherd/Retriever mix is looking for a second chance at love and an active home where she can truly thrive. Penny was rescued from a Manitoba reserve and has been a cherished member of her family for the past five years. Sadly, due to unforeseen family circumstances, her family is making the difficult decision to find her the wonderful home she deserves. Penny is spayed, microchipped, up to date on her vaccinations, and in excellent health with no known medical concerns. She's a social butterfly who adores people, often greeting them with gentle head bumps. Penny is incredibly affectionate and enjoys being close to her humans, always ready to offer calm companionship. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and has lived peacefully with cats, making her a versatile addition to many households. Penny has also been great with children, always maintaining a gentle and friendly demeanor. When it's time to relax, she's perfectly content curling up on the couch for a nap.

Ideal Home

Penny is looking for a family that loves getting outdoors and can provide her with an active lifestyle. She'd truly thrive with longer walks, hikes, and plenty of opportunities to explore and play. A securely fenced yard would be a bonus, as Penny has a healthy curiosity and loves watching and chasing small critters. Because of this, she'll need to stay on leash or in secure areas until her recall improves. She would do well in many different types of homes, whether that's with another friendly dog to play with or as the only pup soaking up all the attention. She could also happily live with dog-savvy cats and respectful children.

Penny is in excellent health with no known medical concerns. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her core vaccinations.

Training & Support

Penny is house-trained and can be left alone during the workday without separation anxiety or destructive behaviors. She does not require a crate and prefers not to be in small, enclosed spaces. Penny already knows several basic commands, including sit, paw, lay down, and stay, and is eager to learn more with treats! Like many enthusiastic dogs, Penny could use some help polishing her leash manners, as she tends to pull when excited. Continued recall training would also be beneficial, as her love for chasing squirrels currently outweighs her desire to come when called. She rides nicely in the car and enjoys having the window cracked open, though she can be a little nervous during busier drives.
