Balto: More Than Just Beautiful — Unbreakable

Balto is a stunning ~2-year-old Dutch Shepherd with a beautiful brindle coat and captivating amber eyes. While his looks are striking, Balto is more than just a handsome face. He's an incredibly resilient, intelligent, and deeply loyal companion who has overcome significant adversity. He survived abuse, starvation, and broken bones that healed without medical care before coming into rescue. Unfortunately, Balto has been adopted and returned twice, once due to an inexperienced handler and a second time due to a handler's past trauma with another dog. Each time, he's had to start over, making him a dog who needs a very specific and committed home.

Ideal Home

Balto needs a home with an experienced, confident, and emotionally steady handler who is trauma-aware. This home must be patient, consistent, and committed. Balto absolutely cannot live with other pets or children. He thrives with clear expectations and confident leadership and relaxes when life is predictable.

Ongoing Health

Balto has healed from past injuries, including a slightly off-kilter snout from blunt trauma. He has had no major medical interventions mentioned beyond basic care and recovery.

Training & Support

Balto is muzzle trained and understands structure. He needs a confident leader who can provide consistent expectations. While he can have a playful side, especially with his ball, his primary need is safety and predictability. Bite work or protection training is not permitted.

Transporation

Balto is currently located in Ohio. If you are within 4 hours of the pet, please be prepared to pick the pet up. We provide transport assistance up to 350 miles, with the applicant driving the remainder of the distance.
