Mahina is a gentle soul looking for a patient, loving home. She's a medium-sized, spayed female, weighing around 39 pounds. Mahina can be a bit shy and anxious in new situations, but with the right environment and support, her sweet and goofy personality truly shines. She's incredibly smart and food-motivated, making her a joy to train. Mahina enjoys quiet time and snuggling up, making her the perfect companion for a relaxed lifestyle. She's also incredibly well-behaved in her kennel and has a good track record with potty training when kept on a schedule.
Ideal Home
Mahina would thrive in a calm, predictable home with limited foot traffic of new people. She needs a patient adopter who will go at her pace and help her build confidence. A fenced-in outdoor area would be a bonus for her zoomies! She is looking for a household where her main caregiver(s) are female, as she tends to warm up more quickly to women.
Ongoing Health
Mahina is currently taking daily and situational medications for anxiety and fear. She is on Sertraline ($20/month supply) and Clonidine ($18/60 count supply) as needed. These medications have been supportive in decreasing the severity of her anxiety.
Training & Support
Mahina is still working on building confidence around new people, especially men. She may initially growl or cower but will eventually warm up if given space and allowed to approach on her own terms. She is very food motivated and enjoys learning. She is doing well with her "shy dog" classes. She's still learning to communicate when she needs to go outside, so a consistent potty schedule is recommended. Mahina also needs a slow feeder for her meals.
