Meet Kali: The Girl Who Just Keeps Waiting — and Loving Anyway
I'm Kali, a 10-year-old, 90-pound bundle of love with natural ears and a docked tail. I have one eye that's a little smaller than the other due to uveitis, which means I need daily eye drops to stay comfortable and I lost sight in that eye. I also have a scar on my head from a life-saving surgery and some old buckshot still in my body from a past incident, though it's not currently a health concern. Despite everything I've been through, my capacity for love is immense, and I adore people with all my heart.
I've been with Georgia Doberman Rescue for almost four years and have had to return a few times through no fault of my own. Life circumstances led to my previous returns. Recently, I was diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma, but the amazing team at UGA performed surgery, and they believe they got good margins. I'm hopeful for a few more good years. Even after an adopter backed out after my surgery, I'm still here, waiting patiently and wagging my tail.
I'm a "velcro dog" who loves to be close to my person, offering cuddles and companionship. I have plenty of energy for running and playing fetch! I also have a bit of a dramatic flair and will let you know if I don't get my way with barking and whining. I need a home that can set boundaries and hold the line, so I won't run the household – an apartment is not ideal due to this.
I know "sit" and can wait patiently for my food. I'm crate trained, though I might try to convince you otherwise! My leash manners need some work, but a consistent handler will make a big difference. I'm great with kids and a wonderful family dog. I get along with other dogs with slow, careful introductions and have lived with cats and rabbits. I'm very socially flexible!
Ideal Home
I need a home that can set firm boundaries and hold the line, as I can be vocal if I don't get my way. An apartment is not ideal.
Ongoing Health
I require daily eye drops for uveitis to maintain comfort. I also need follow-up care for my recent soft tissue sarcoma surgery as directed by UGA. I am a senior dog at 10 years old, but I still have a lot of energy and life in me. The buckshot in my body is monitored and not currently a health concern. I am spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and negative for intestinal parasites.
Training & Support
My leash manners need improvement and would benefit from a consistent handler. I may try to convince you I'm not crate trained, but I am!
