About Aster

Aster is a delightful little lady who had a really rough start in life, even spending a few days in the ICU at Iowa State University shortly after arriving at her foster home. She has a congenital condition known as Hypoplastic Trachea, which means she will need some special care throughout her life, but it certainly doesn't slow her down! Aster is sweet, affectionate, loves to sit in your lap, and is very playful. She enjoys chewing on puppy toys and chasing balls. She's currently working on puppy manners, crate training, and potty training, as well as all the fun puppy socialization like experiencing new sights, sounds, smells, and making new friends. She absolutely loves belly rubs! Aster can be a bit shy with new people at first but warms up quickly and enjoys spending time with humans and other animals alike. She is a confident, curious puppy who will need a safe, puppy-proofed space to play and explore with guidance. She's not afraid to get on, under, over, or into anything! Aster is up to date on age-appropriate vaccines and is available for foster-to-adopt. She will likely be 75-80 lbs when full grown.

Ideal Home

Aster will need a home that can provide her with a safe, puppy-proofed space to play and explore. She is not afraid of anything and loves to get into things!

Ongoing Health

Aster has a congenital condition called Hypoplastic Trachea, which will require careful management throughout her life. This includes using only harnesses for walks (no collars), avoiding areas with heavy dog traffic, and seeking immediate veterinary attention for any upper respiratory symptoms. She will always be more susceptible to issues like pneumonia with upper respiratory viruses and could develop age-related issues related to her condition. With diligent care, she can live a full, healthy, and normal life.

Training & Support

Aster is working on puppy manners, crate training, and potty training. She is also learning about socialization and meeting new friends.
