Hi there! My name is Rico, and I'm a 1 year 9 month old male Chihuahua mix who is eager for a new home! I came to the Santa Barbara Campus from an overcrowded rescue after my previous mom faced significant life changes and made the difficult decision to surrender me for my safety. When I first arrived, I was shy and hesitant, needing time to adjust to my new surroundings and trust the people around me. But don't let my initial caution fool you, beneath that reserved exterior is a little dog with a lot of spunk, personality, and heart! I've blossomed into a confident and playful companion who loves to explore, snuggle, and be the main center of attention! My fearfulness has melted away as I've discovered that I'm in a safe, loving space where I can just be... Rico. I've got a mischievous streak, whether it's playfully zooming around the yard or charming my way into your lap with my big, soulful eyes. I'm also incredibly loyal and form deep bonds, making me a wonderful addition to any family. Though my journey hasn't been easy, my resilience and growing confidence show just how adaptable and loving I can be. I'm ready to leave my past behind and embrace a future filled with warmth, care, and all the belly rubs I could want. Ongoing Health
Like all the animals here, I will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped upon adoption. I'll also come with a certificate for a complimentary post-adoption veterinary exam from a local clinic, and my new family will receive a supply of Hills Science Diet food for my first few days at home.

I'm still learning and growing, and with patience and positive reinforcement, I know I can become the best dog I can be!
