Duke is a playful, 4.5-year-old German Shepherd mix who truly knows how to entertain himself! He's a master bug chaser, a pro at tossing and catching his own toys, and is perfectly content playing solo. Duke is already crate and house trained, and he's a smart cookie – a treat will have him sitting before you even ask! He walks well on a leash, absolutely adores a game of fetch, and has experience living with other dogs and children. While he's friendly, we recommend older kids who understand how to interact respectfully, as he's not keen on being laid on or having his tail pulled.
Ideal Home
Duke can resource guard affection, meaning he really thrives on being loved! Because of this, he'd do best as the only dog in the home, or with an owner who understands and can manage resource guarding. He does best with female dogs his size or smaller. Large, dominant male dogs are not a good match, but more submissive medium or smaller males might be okay. Duke can also be protective of his family when inside the home, so a quieter environment without a lot of unfamiliar faces is ideal. When new guests visit (think parties or repair people), he should be crated or in a separate space. He does warm up well to repeat guests he's met properly and is a friendly guy when out and about on walks.
Ongoing Health
No specific health concerns were mentioned in his description.
Training & Support
Duke is house and crate trained and knows basic commands like "sit." He is good on leash and loves playing ball. Due to his potential for resource guarding, an owner knowledgeable about this behavior is recommended. For new visitors, it's best to introduce them carefully or have him crated until he's comfortable.
