My name is Dexter, and I don't mean to brag, but I'm a pretty special guy! I'm an 8-year-young Poodle blend, weighing in at 19 lbs. I'm a loving, quirky boy with lots to say — mostly through my collection of funny noises. Remember the sounds the pterodactyls made in Jurassic Park? Yep... that's me! I absolutely LOVE squeaky toys and stuffed animals — the more, the better. Fetch is one of my favorite games, and I'll proudly bring you my stuffie and ask for a solid 10–15 throws before I'm satisfied. After that, I'll grab my toy and settle in for a wellearned rest (and you can rest your throwing arm). I'm very food-motivated and will “talk” to you while you prepare my meals... just a little encouragement to speed things along. And if you have a pool? I'll happily hop onto your float and lounge right beside you. I have great manners and walk nicely on a leash. I'm excellent about going potty outdoors when kept on a consistent schedule. I don't get into things and enjoy free rein of the house with my furry foster pals, whether my family is home or away. I'm a perfect passenger in the car — I ride in my secure car seat, watch the world go by, and then settle in for a nap.
Ideal Home
I would thrive in a single-family home. I can be vocal at times (remember those pterodactyl sounds?) and have big opinions when you leave the house without me, so shared walls in an apartment or condo aren't the best fit. I'd love a fenced yard or a human who enjoys leisurely walks — either works for me. I sleep in the “human bed” at night and use the steps to get up and down. I sleep soundly through the night and will happily snooze in and snuggle on the weekends. I enjoy gentle affection and scratches from people of all ages, but I do not appreciate kids grabbing at me or trying to pick me up. For this reason, a home with older (8 +), respectful children — or an adult-only home — would be ideal.
Ongoing Health
I am up to date on vaccines, microchipped, neutered, and recently had a dental cleaning. I take a low-dose calcium medication that costs about $1/day — I look forward to my twice-daily dose and take it like a treat. I'm also on monthly heartworm and flea prevention, like any dog should be. My fur is soft and thin, so I'll need professional grooming every 10–12 weeks. I'm a perfect gentleman for grooming appointments and at-home baths.
