Meet Raya!

Raya's story is one that will stay with us forever. She was found loyally standing guard over her sibling, who had been tragically struck and killed on a busy highway. Despite the dangers of passing cars, she refused to leave until a kind volunteer could safely bring her to safety. That day marked the beginning of a new, brighter chapter for Raya.

Today, Raya is a happy, resilient, and utterly hilarious young girl. She's incredibly playful, athletic, and has a unique way of bounding like a little deer when she gets the zoomies, bringing laughter wherever she goes. Adventures are her jam! She loves walks, car rides, hiking, and exploring. In fact, she'd happily trek for miles and would only turn back if convinced to go home. A securely fenced yard is essential for Raya to safely enjoy her many adventures.

Once the excitement of adventure winds down, Raya's favorite activity is being as close to her people as possible. She wants to snuggle on laps, curl up on the couch, and gradually claim her spot in your bed. She's searching for a family that truly wants their dog to be an integral part of their daily lives.

Raya requires slow, positive introductions to new people and other dogs. Once she feels comfortable, she's exceptionally affectionate and loyal, but she does appreciate a little time to warm up. For this reason, she may do best as the only dog in the household, especially for adopters who can't conduct in-person meet-and-greets with resident dogs. While she can get along with other dogs after proper introductions, we want to ensure this process is unhurried. Cats, however, are a bit too exciting for Raya, so a cat-free home is a must.

Raya forms deep bonds and loves with her whole heart. She isn't a dog who thrives on being alone for extended periods. Her foster uses a sturdy crate when needed to help manage some separation anxiety and prevent mischief. If you're typically away for 8-10 hours a day with limited time at home, Raya might not be the best fit.

Having overcome heartbreak and learned to trust again, Raya is ready to share all her love with a family of her own.

Ideal Home

A securely fenced yard is a must for this adventurous girl. Raya is looking for a home where she can be an integral part of everyday life and is not suited for households where dogs are left alone for 8-10 hours a day. A cat-free home is required.

Ongoing Health

All dogs are vet-checked, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations before transport.

Training & Support

Raya benefits from a crate when left alone to help with separation anxiety and prevent mischief. Slow, positive introductions are needed for new people and other dogs.

Transportation

Raya is currently located in South Mississippi. We welcome local and out-of-town adopters. For adopters outside of our immediate area, we offer virtual meet-and-greets and can arrange transport to many states in the Northeast. The adoption fee includes transport to the city on this listing, with transports occurring every 2-3 weeks. We cannot adopt to Rhode Island due to import restrictions.
