A little about them
Karlton is a sweet, cuddly 7-year-old Ruby Cavalier who loves following his person, resting by their side, and meeting new people. He enjoys carrying toys—especially his flat, floppy skunk—and has a gentle, calm personality with occasional after-dinner zoomies.
Ideal Home
Karlton gets along well with dogs of all sizes, though he can become pushy or jealous when another dog receives attention or treats. He enjoys chasing toys, squirrels, birds, and leaves, so items should be kept safely out of reach. He is sensitive to heat and humidity and would prefer a home without stairs, although he has learned to use them. His response to storms and fireworks has been generally calm, possibly because of suspected hearing loss.
Ongoing Health
Karlton is neutered and weighs approximately 19–20 pounds. He had a dental procedure with nine teeth removed, mainly incisors. A tiny spot found during the dental was biopsied and stained clear, but should be monitored. He has a very mild heart murmur associated with Grade 1 mitral valve disease, proteinuria, mildly elevated blood pressure, and early mild kidney or renal disease. He takes daily telmisartan, which costs about $3 per month. His blood pressure, urine, and blood chemistry should be checked every six months; an echocardiogram by a canine cardiologist is recommended if his murmur progresses. He has also experienced yeasty ears and previously had a UTI that cleared.
Training & Support
Karlton is leash trained and enjoys short walks, including walks of about a mile on cool days. He is still working on potty training and does best when taken out regularly. He politely waits for his belly band when coming inside and is nearly ready for free roam. He is not yet an athlete but is making great progress.
