Sunflower

Meet Sunflower (ACCT-A-252385), a gentle soul looking for a patient friend to help her bloom!

Sunflower is a "brave" girl who can be a little shy at first. When she's in her kennel, she might be tucked away on her bed, but her love for treats is the perfect way to start a friendship. Once she knows she can trust you, her true personality shines through. She is incredibly sweet and dainty, and she has a wonderful way of showing affection. She loves to rest her chin on your leg while you talk to her, and once she's comfortable, she'll even nudge your hand for more pets!

A true snuggle-bug, Sunflower has been known to hop up on a bench to get closer to her favorite people. She even likes to put her paws on your chest to give you a proper hug. While she can be a bit insecure in new environments, she tries so hard to be brave and follows the lead of a steady, kind handler.

Behavioral Notes

06/13/2026 per staff: Meeting echo: Gentle and dainty- displacement sniffing to give echo space, sniffed echo when opportunity to sniff rear presented itself, when snapped at lip licked and backed up, went back to sniffing and interesting with her handler. Loose body language seen throughout

06/11/2026 per volunteer: Sunflower is the sweetest girl! She was a joy to take out today. She was shy at first and I needed to coax her out of her kennel with treats to leash her. Once we got outside and I dropped the leash in the yard, and warmed up a lot! She liked treats and she let me start to pet her by giving her some. She warmed up really quickly to me! She let me pet her and snuggle her and she hopped up o the bench with me to snuggle. She is very brave! I could tell she was insecure and fearful but she was able to be brave and try with me guiding her. We also sat in the volunteer office and she put her paws on my chest during snuggles. She is very very sweet, she will blossom in a quiet environment with a steady handler!

06/09/2026 playgroup: Steer test: 0/5 with water 2/5 with can. Tail tucked, lip licking at the fence greetings. Slow entry, handler oriented. Stiff greetings. Over corrected.

06/09/2026 per staff behavioral eval: Kennel Presentation: Laying on her bed, wide eyes, ears back, tucked tail. Eating the treats that were offered.

Leash Skills: Needed to toss treats to get her to move off her bed. Once off the bed, tail tucked, attempted treat lure through leash which she would back up when the leash moved. Did a large loop and treat trail through and she was easily leashed. Once leashed came right out. Walked with low tail, ears back, loose leash.

Sociability: In the yard, stayed by my side, ears back, soft eyes, low tail. Would give low tail wags and rest her chin on my leg when I talked to her in a baby voice. Allowed all handling and would nudge my hand when I stopped. Takes treats a little snatchy so open palm is best.

Play: n/a

Dog Interaction: Met Levine, tail tucked, ears back, stayed near my side. Would lip raise when Levine was within 2 feet of her. Air snapped when Levine went up to sniff her.

Return to Kennel: Walked back with a low tail, ears back, loose leash. Hopped right into kennel and leash was removed easily.
