Meet Onyx!
Some dogs wear their hearts on their sleeves. Onyx doesn't. His past is a mystery, and while we may never know what he has been through, it is clear that life taught him to be careful. He does not hand out his trust right away—and that is okay. Onyx is looking for the kind of family who understands that the best relationships are not rushed. They are earned through patience, kindness, and love.
When meeting new people or other dogs, Onyx likes to take things slow. He will quietly observe, take his time, and decide when he is ready. But once you have earned his trust, you will discover the incredible dog that has been waiting beneath his cautious exterior—a loyal companion who will stand by your side through everything.
Onyx does not need someone to rescue him—he needs someone willing to believe in him. Someone who understands that trust is built one moment at a time. Someone who will celebrate the little victories, cherish the quiet moments, and see the amazing dog he is becoming. When it's time to relax, you will usually find him happily chewing on a bone or enjoying one of the toys he has only recently discovered. Watching him learn how to simply be a dog has been one of the greatest joys of fostering him.
Ideal Home
Onyx would love to be the only dog in the home where he can soak up all the love for himself. Because he is still building confidence, we also feel he would do best in a home without young children. If there is another dog, he will need slow, thoughtful introductions to help him feel safe and comfortable.

Training & Support
Onyx is crate trained, has wonderful house manners, and is eager to please. He knows sit, shake, leave it, watch, down, come, and stay. He patiently sits for his meals and treats, taking every treat with the gentlest touch. He politely sits to have his leash put on before heading out the door for his daily walks.
