Meet Peeta!

Peeta is a giant, goofy lovebug with the sweetest soul tucked inside an 85-pound Great Pyrenees/Golden Retriever mix body. At around 2 years old, he is the perfect blend of playful, affectionate, sensitive, and hilariously unaware of his own size.

Peeta and his sister, Katniss, were dumped and left to survive on their own, so the world felt very scary to him at first. When he arrived, he was extremely timid and unsure of people. But with patience, consistency, snacks, and the comfort of another dog nearby, Peeta has slowly started letting his walls down — and the sweet, silly boy underneath is absolutely worth the wait.

Peeta can be shy and avoidant when meeting new people, so he needs slow introductions and time to observe before fully trusting. The good news is that he is very food motivated, and treats are the key to winning him over. Once he realizes he is safe, his affectionate and playful personality begins to shine.

Peeta absolutely loves other dogs and has done well with every dog he has met so far. Having another confident dog in the home would be wonderful for him and would help him continue building confidence. He loves to play, be silly, and bounce around like an oversized puppy who forgot he is basically the size of a small horse.

He rides well in the car, enjoys being near his people, and is learning that life can be soft and safe. Public outings and walks can still feel overwhelming, so he needs someone patient who understands that confidence-building is a journey. A harness, structure, and positive reinforcement work wonderfully for him.

Because of his size and enthusiastic affection, Peeta would do best with older children who can respect his space while he settles in. He would thrive in a calmer home with a routine, another friendly dog companion, and someone willing to let him move at his own pace.

Peeta is the kind of dog who may not run into your arms immediately but once you earn his trust, he will love you with his whole heart.
