Meet Onyx, a sweet 7-year-old Chi Dachshund mix weighing around 20lbs. This charming girl has a calm, gentle spirit and a personality that will make you smile every day. Onyx was rescued from the euthanasia list at an overcrowded shelter in Houston, and since then, she’s been showing everyone just how special she is. She’s a very easygoing girl who is both smart and quietly funny in her little old lady ways. Onyx’s cutest quirk is how she flops down spread eagle on the floor or out in the yard and rubs her belly in happy little circles. She loves being close to her people but prefers to sit beside you rather than on top of you. If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate companion who simply wants to be near you and loved, Onyx might just be your perfect match.
Ideal Home
Onyx enjoys a slower pace due to a bit of arthritis and would do best in a semi-active to low-activity household where she can enjoy short walks and plenty of relaxing time. She has done well with respectful kids ages 7–12 and would do best with older, dog-savvy children.
Ongoing Health
Onyx is spayed, vaccinated, and up to date on all her preventatives. She is an older gal with a bit of arthritis.
Training & Support
Onyx is house-broken, sleeps in her crate at night by choice, and can be crated up to 10 hours if needed. She doesn’t resource guard, shows no food aggression, and can be trusted to free roam the house without being destructive. She can get a little excited on leash when greeting new dog friends.

Transportation
Onyx is currently being fostered in San Antonio. Transports run every few weeks and she can be transported out of state to the right approved adopter. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time.
