Hi, I'm Odie! I'm a handsome 4-year-old, 65-pound Rottweiler mix with a heart full of love to give. My journey started a little rough, finding myself on the side of the road as a tiny pup. While my siblings found homes, I stayed with a loving person, but that early experience left me with some lingering anxiety and fear. I'm working hard every day to overcome it, and I'm looking for a special human who can help me feel safe, understood, and supported.
Ideal Home
I'm looking for a home with an experienced dog owner who is patient, steady, and confident. Someone who understands fear-based behaviors and can set clear boundaries while being gentle. I'm not a match for a timid handler or a first-time dog owner. I need someone who will help me feel safe, not overwhelmed. I would do best in a household without young children under 14 years of age. I'm not good with cats.
Ongoing Health
I am neutered and house-trained. I am currently on Reconcile to help manage my anxiety, which has also been helped by being neutered.
Training & Support
I'm nervous with new people at first, but once I trust you, I bond deeply. I can be protective of my person, especially my mom, and may bark or growl when strangers come near. I struggle with the crate as it scares me, and getting me inside can be tough. When I'm left alone, I do best when I have access to just one room. My anxiety has increased since a baby arrived, sometimes leading me to get into things like the trash or random objects when I feel overwhelmed. I have had a single bite incident when my owner was pulling me away from the screen door as I was barking at the mailman, and I turned and bit her hand. I would do best going to a home that will provide me with training to teach me that I can relax around strangers and do not need to defend the household. I know commands like sit, speak, and shake, and I really do want to please.
