Meet Spanky! He's a 7-year-old, 60-pound pitbull with a squishy, adorable face and a personality to match. Spanky's owner had to move into a facility where he wasn't allowed, and he found himself waiting at a vet clinic for a new home. Thankfully, a wonderful foster stepped up, and Spanky joined our rescue family in February 2022. He's a "low rider" at about 1.5 feet tall, but don't let his size fool you – he's packed with personality! His foster mom calls him a "Velcro child" because he loves to be close to his people and can't get enough belly rubs and snacks. Spanky has an initial burst of energy that eventually settles into couch potato mode, complete with plenty of snoring! He's great with other dogs who can match his energy and loves kids. While he's not yet tested with cats, he can be a little overly enthusiastic with younger children due to his tendency to jump and hug, so he'd do best with older kids. Spanky is eager to please, which will make house and crate training a breeze. He enjoys having a bit of space when he's not with his humans and does well on a leash, though he prefers shorter walks. He's very vocal when you return home, expressing his excitement that you're back, and he'll also let you know about the mailman or delivery drivers. His foster family also mentions he makes a funny snorting noise sometimes. Spanky's dream family would include him in their daily walks, appreciate his desire to be by their side, and shower him with wet kisses as they teach him the ropes of being a happy dog.
Ideal Home
Spanky would do best in a home with older children, as he can be a bit energetic with younger ones. He enjoys having some space when he's not directly interacting with his people.
Ongoing Health
Spanky is neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, dewormed, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is on monthly preventative medication. He eats Nutrisource Grain Free Lamb & Pea dry dog food.
Training & Support
Spanky is working on being housebroken and crate trained, but his eagerness to please means he'll likely pick these up quickly. He also has a tendency to bark at the mailman and delivery drivers.
