My name is Darren, but my foster mom calls me Dixon. I'm a 55lb Lab Retriever Mix with an estimated birthday of 11/25/2024. My foster mom says I deserved a fresh start after my near-death experience at the shelter, and I think she's right. Thanks to her, Sunnyside Street Dogs and Pooch Manor, I got a second chance at life, and every day I try my hardest to show them they made the right decision. When my foster mom first brought me home, I was so scared she had to carry me inside. I didn't know what to expect. She gave me all the time and space I needed while she quietly worked nearby. I explored my new home, curled up on a real dog bed beside her, and got the best sleep I'd had in a very long time. Now I've settled in beautifully! I absolutely love the other dogs in my foster home. The younger dog is my best friend and favorite playmate, while the older dog humors me when he's in the mood. The kids adore me, and I adore them right back. As for the cat...well, she hasn't decided to be my best friend yet, but I'm still hopeful! I'm a smart boy, too! I know how to sit and shake (hello), and I have a special trick that melts everyone's heart. When my foster mom says, "Pray," I sit up, place both of my paws in her hands, bow my head, and look like I'm saying my bedtime prayers. One of my favorite things to do is gently nudge my foster mom's arm while she's working to ask for a little attention. She always scratches my head, tells me what a sweet boy I am, and honestly...I could never get enough of that. I may not be the handsomest guy just yet. My skin is still healing, and my foster mom gives me several medicated baths each week to help my fur grow back. She says I look like a little werewolf...the nerve! Thankfully, she also gives the best massages, so I forgive her. I'm kennel trained and absolutely love my kennel... it's my safe place. All my foster mom has to say is, "Kennel!" and I run right in because I know good things happen there. I get treats, praise, and sometimes even a little human food! Most of all, I'm just looking for a family to call my own. I'd love a home where I'll be cherished forever, and if there's another playful dog for me to wrestle and romp with, that would be icing on the cake. I've already survived the hardest part of my journey. Now all I need is someone to give me the happy ending I've been waiting for. Could that someone be you?
