Ozzy is a sweet, eager, and funny 7-year-old Corgi mix with a heart of gold! When he first arrived, he was a bit anxious and was found to have untreated diabetes. He's now on a journey with twice-daily insulin injections with his meals and a special diet to help him reach a healthier weight. He's already made great progress, shedding some pounds and seeing his blood sugar levels stabilize. Ozzy recently had a dental procedure where a few teeth were removed, but he's now in tip-top shape and ready for his forever home! He's a talkative boy who loves to "chat" with his humans, cocking his head and listening attentively. He knows commands like sit, stay, back, and lay down, and he's a pro at rolling over for belly rubs. He enjoys his chew toys, especially bison horns and antlers, which have also helped with his dental health. Ozzy is incredibly affectionate and will even come running to check on you if you sneeze – it's the sweetest thing!
Ideal Home
Ozzy would thrive in a home with another dog his size for wrestling and zoomies, but he would also be happy as an only dog as long as he gets plenty of outdoor playtime. He is generally well-socialized with dogs, giving clear cues when he's had enough playtime and understanding their body language. A careful and slow introduction to any new canine companions would be best.
Ongoing Health
Ozzy has diabetes and requires twice-daily insulin injections with his meals. He is also on a weight management diet. He recently underwent a dental procedure with some tooth extractions and is now doing very well.
Training & Support
Ozzy pulls on the leash but is always excited for walks. He can be reactive to other dogs on leash during walks, though this seems less when he walks solo. His foster is working on redirecting his focus, and he's showing good progress. Ozzy has some resource guarding tendencies, which have been managed with strategies like separate feeding and monitoring chew toy usage. He takes treats gently and can even catch them!
