Ernie is a neutered, 8-year-old male Pittie/Cattle Dog mix, weighing around 63lbs. He was found running in traffic and thankfully rescued by his foster mom. Despite being microchipped, his previous owner did not want him back. Ernie was adopted from a county shelter in 2020 and was clearly well-loved, as he tested heartworm negative and is a friendly guy. He's a true gem who deserves a wonderful forever home!
Ideal Home
Ernie is a social and gentle boy who enjoys being wherever his people are. He gets along with all the humans and animals he has met, wagging his tail and hoping to make new friends. He's a gentle playmate who goes with the flow and has even let his smaller foster sibling boss him around. He shows interest in cats but not aggressively, so he might do well with feline friends who don't mind him saying hello. While Ernie hasn't been around children, his foster believes he'd be a loving companion for them, as long as they are aware he is a bigger dog. He would likely be a great fit for kids, with or without other pets, an older couple, or even a first-time dog owner.
Ongoing Health
Ernie is a healthy boy with no known ongoing health conditions.
Training & Support
Ernie is house-trained and walks beautifully on a leash. He does not enjoy crates and will attempt to escape. Fortunately, he is not destructive when left alone. If he knows you are home but he's in his crate, he may whine or howl for a short period, but this can be managed with treats or verbal reassurance.
