Johnny Cash is a handsome, 2-year-old, 52-pound Sheltie/Heeler mix who was once a long-term resident at a rural Texas shelter. He's a smart, loyal, and eager-to-please boy who doesn't have a mean bone in his body. Despite his past, Johnny Cash is not a "project dog." He's a dog who simply needs a loving home to call his own. He's playful and adventurous, loves being outdoors, and wants to be involved in everything his people do. He also has a softer side and enjoys curling up for couch time. Like many herding breeds, he is intelligent, observant, and thrives with a purpose and a person to love.

Ideal Home

Johnny Cash would thrive in a home where he can be part of the family's activities. Due to his prey drive, he should not be placed in a home with cats or free-ranging chickens.

Ongoing Health

Johnny Cash is neutered. He appears to have some anxiety surrounding vehicles, likely from past experiences. He travels best secured in a crate or kennel, and with patience and consistency, his confidence is expected to grow.

Training & Support

Johnny Cash walks nicely on a leash, is dog-friendly, and is not reactive to cattle. He is good with horses. What he needs most is belonging and stability.
