Meet Benson! This gentle, five-year-old mixed breed with lineage including American Pitbull Terrier, German Shepherd, Chow Chow, and other breeds is a large, 75-pound companion with a soft cream coat and soulful eyes. Benson is a calm, low-energy dog who thrives as a constant companion, happiest when he's close to his people. He knows many commands like "sit," "stay," "come," "leave it," and "look at me," as well as sweet ones like "kisses" and "snuggle." His favorite pastimes include enrichment games, swimming, chasing a sturdy ball, and enjoying a good chew. Benson may take a moment to warm up to new people, but once he connects, he is deeply devoted, loving, and attentive. He is intuitive and forms strong bonds, offering comfort by leaning in or curling up beside you when you need it most.
Ideal Home
Benson would thrive in a calm, structured environment with a securely fenced yard that is at least six feet tall, as he has been known to jump fences. He needs an adult-only home and is not compatible with cats.
Ongoing Health
Benson takes a daily medication to manage his allergies and support his emotional balance, a plan established with his behavioral vet. He also has a situational calming aid for higher-stress moments.
Training & Support
While Benson walks well, he can pull on leash, so continued guidance and positive reinforcement training will help him stay focused. He is selective with other dogs and can be reactive with unfamiliar ones, so he needs a thoughtful, well-managed environment. He knows "leave it" and engage-and-disengage focus work, and he reliably brings his attention back to his person when another dog passes. While he has experience living with multiple dogs, due to rising tension with one particular dog and a resulting altercation, Benson would thrive as the only dog in a home or with a caregiver experienced in structured, gradual introductions supported by positive reinforcement training. In his first weeks in a new home, he does best kept on leash even within the fenced yard and around doorways while he settles in.
