We barely have the words for this one, but here we go.
We try really hard not to judge the owner surrender dogs we get into the Shelter. Our focus is always on trying to get them in and out as fast as possible, to the best home possible, so that their transition period is short.
But there are always exceptions. And Ocean is an exception.
Ocean is 8-years-old and his previous name was Rescue - which we promptly changed. We wanted him to know that the love and care ahead for him would be as big as an ocean.
Ocean was one of the most heavily matted dogs we have ever seen. The mats on his legs were as big as a fist. Once he was sedated for treatment, they shaved TWO POUNDS of fur off of him.
Ocean's ears were tragic. They were unbearably painful, he would shake his head but immediately stop because that made the pain worse. He was crying all the time.
Once he was sedated, it was discovered that one ear was almost fully swollen shut. There was just enough of an opening for pus to come out.
Our amazing vet team has, once again, righted a wrong. They shaved him completely down, treated his ears (a long road ahead for one ear) and restored his dignity.
But Ocean has proven to us this amazing phenomenon - the dogs who are treated the absolute worst, love the most. His world is now as big as an ocean and he has love and care pouring in for him. Please come meet him and see for yourself.
And to the family and friends of anyone with a dog in this condition, DO SOMETHING. To ignore a dog like this is cruel and inhumane.
