About Paloma

Paloma is an absolutely wonderful 1.5-year-old, 74lb cane corso mix who embodies everything people love about mastiff breeds. She is incredibly loyal, bonds deeply with her person, and is strong-willed and very smart. You'll be charmed by her adorable body wiggles! Paloma was adopted as a puppy by a citizen and returned over a year later because her owner didn't have time for her and kept her as an outside dog. Understandably scared and confused at the shelter, her fear led her to be placed on the euthanasia list. Thankfully, we scooped her up because we're suckers for big babies and love mastiffs.

In foster care, Paloma has shown us just how wonderful she is! She is extremely friendly with all people and has shown zero signs of stranger danger, loving everyone regardless of gender or age, and is even polite and friendly when meeting someone in a wheelchair. She is terrific with other playful dogs around her size, having played beautifully with dogs from 40-80lbs. However, she does have a more alpha personality, so if adopted into a home with another dog, that dog should be more neutral or submissive. Due to her high prey drive, she cannot live with cats. Paloma loves to train and is very in tune with her foster, responding readily to sounds and redirecting easily thanks to her deep bond with her human. We believe she has the potential to be a service dog with the right opportunity.

Ideal Home

Paloma is a high-energy young dog looking for an active home where she can get the breed-appropriate exercise she needs, at least 1.5 hours of cumulative exercise per day. While high energy, she also loves curling up in a little donut next to her human and can be very chill when her needs are met. A home that thrives on routine and exercise will help her give you the world.

Ongoing Health

Paloma is a healthy 1.5-year-old, 74lb dog.

Training & Support

Paloma is working on leash and crate training. For leash training, a figure 8 and low-level e-collar are used to help with redirection, and she responds very well, but her adopter should be dedicated to continuing this work. With crate training, she has improved greatly. On low-exercise days, she may howl for 10-20 minutes before settling. On days with ample exercise, she settles in immediately. An adopter should be excited to help her work through this, as she's just a puppy learning to live life indoors.
