Newton is a nearly five-year-old, 25-pound bundle of joy who is a delightful mix of Lhasa Apso, Bichon Frise, Shih Tzu, and Maltese. He was found as a stray, sadly suffering from painful matting and an umbilical hernia, which were both addressed when he was neutered. Despite his rough start, Newton has blossomed in his foster home and has shown himself to be an incredibly affectionate and playful companion. He loves to be close to his people, whether it's snuggling on your lap, resting beside you on the couch, or even sharing your bed at night. An animal communicator even sensed that Newton is missing his former family, suggesting he may have experienced a difficult separation. He gets along wonderfully with his foster dog siblings and enjoys playing with toys.
Ideal Home
Newton would thrive in a home with a securely fenced yard where he can romp and play. He is not suited for apartment or condo living. Due to his energetic nature and a tendency to be a bit mouthy, he would not do well with young children.
Ongoing Health
Newton is neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations. His umbilical hernia has been surgically repaired. His coat requires regular grooming to prevent matting, and while he was initially fearful of grooming due to past experiences, he is now fine with gentle handling.
Training & Support
Newton is leash-trained and crate-trained. While he is eager to please and intelligent, he is described as somewhat vocal and may need some guidance in managing this. His foster family has been working with him on his grooming fears, and he is improving with gentle encouragement. He would benefit from a family experienced with dogs who can continue to support his emotional recovery from past trauma.
