Norm

Norm is a resilient 3-year-old poodle/terrier mix, weighing about 7 pounds, who is learning to embrace life after a challenging past. He came from a hoarding situation and was found severely matted, emaciated, and neglected. Initially, Norm struggled to adjust, showing fear and uncertainty in his new environment. However, with patience and kindness, he has made incredible progress! He's gained weight, discovered the joy of toys, and is learning that gentle hands and soft voices are a sign of safety. Norm's trust has grown so much that he now happily cuddles with his caregivers, finding comfort and security.

Ideal Home

Norm would thrive in a calm home environment. He would absolutely love to have another kind, dog-friendly dog of any size to show him the ropes and provide companionship. Due to his small size and past trauma, he would do best with older, dog-savvy children who understand and respect his need for gentle handling and boundaries.

Ongoing Health

Norm has mild patella issues in his back legs, likely due to past malnourishment and underdevelopment. He does not appear to be in pain. He is currently on anti-anxiety medication, which has greatly helped him to blossom and feel more secure.

Training & Support

Norm is fully potty trained and will use a doggy door confidently. He is not destructive when left alone. While he is improving with leash skills, he is still getting used to them and is sometimes carried for convenience. Norm was initially fearful of being cornered or grabbed and would bite if threatened. While he no longer bites, he still needs gentle handling and a family who respects his need to feel safe. Patience, slow movements, and building trust are key to his continued success.
