About Odie

Hi, I'm Odie! I'm a handsome 4-year-old, 65-pound black Rottweiler mix with a heart full of love to give, just waiting for the right person to share it with. My journey started a bit rough; I was found as a tiny puppy with my siblings, and while they found homes, I stayed with the person who meant the world to me. That early start has left me with some anxiety and fear, but I'm working hard every day to be the best boy I can be!

Ideal Home

I need a home with an experienced dog owner who is patient, steady, and confident. Someone who understands fear-based behaviors and can provide clear boundaries with a gentle touch. I'm not the best fit for a timid handler or a first-time dog owner, as I need someone who will help me feel safe and not overwhelmed. A household without young children under 14 years of age would be ideal for me. I also need a home without cats. While I did well when boarded with other dogs, I haven't lived with them before, so a home without other dogs would be best.

Ongoing Health

I am neutered and house-trained. To help manage my anxiety, I am currently on Reconcile, and being neutered has also been beneficial. I did have a single bite incident where I redirected and bit my owner's hand when she was pulling me away from the screen door as I was barking at the mailman. This highlights the need for a home that can provide me with specialized training to help me relax around strangers and understand that I don't need to defend the household.

Training & Support

I know commands like "sit," "speak," and "shake," and I genuinely want to please! I can be nervous around new people, but once I trust you, I bond very deeply. My anxiety can sometimes manifest as protectiveness, especially towards my mom, and I may bark or growl at strangers. The crate scares me, and it can be challenging to get me inside it. When I'm left alone, I do best with access to just one room, and my family even used a baby monitor to help me feel secure. Since a baby joined the family, my stress has increased, sometimes leading to chewing on things like trash or random objects when I feel overwhelmed. I need someone who can provide me with consistent structure and build my confidence.
